Our Story: From High School to East Colfax
High school sweethearts who found their way back to one another, Jessica and Vince reconnected just before their 20th reunion in a way only the modern world could facilitate. A photo Jessica posted with Paula Deen—one of the most beloved American chefs at the time—caught Vince’s eye and sparked the conversation that changed everything. Although they were living half a country apart—Vince in Oklahoma City and Jessica in Los Angeles—that single connection led to a year of long-distance dating before Vince moved west to start their life together.
As their young family grew, the late nights associated with fine dining began to feel disconnected from the life they wanted to build. With a toddler and a baby at home, Vince realized that his lifelong passion for the perfect sandwich offered the ideal balance. He envisioned a concept that allowed for more traditional hours with a young family while creating something truly accessible. While fine dining is not always a frequent option for every household, he believed that high-quality, chef-driven food should be within reach for everyone. He first brought this vision to life at Del Rey Deli in Playa Del Rey, testing the recipes and hospitality that would eventually define their signature style.
As middle school approached, the couple felt a pull to move closer to family and set their sights on Colorado. They were drawn to Denver’s vibrant community, schools, and the call of the mountains. During a scouting trip one weekend—complete with a performance by Vince’s favorite drummer at Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox—they knew they had found their home. They fell in love with the Park Hill and Mayfair area, recognizing it as the perfect place to plant roots and launch their own deli.
Their mission has always been simple: to feed their community, friends, and neighbors, and to provide a welcoming gathering spot for everyone. Now, heading into their seventh year at Tessa Delicatessen, Jessica and Vince are more excited than ever. They are proud to be part of the foundation of the evolving East Colfax landscape, witnessing firsthand as the neighborhood brings a thriving new energy back to the area.
Whether you’re a long-time regular or a first-time visitor, Jessica and Vince invite you to pull up a chair and join them.
